On the eastern bank of the Chamkhar Chhu is Bumthang's uniquely picturesque "industrial zone." Along with workshops producing delicious cheese and jam you will find the one-room Bumthang Brewery, responsible for producing some of Bhutan's tastiest beer, Red Panda Weissbier. Set up two decades ago, the brewery uses German equipment, Indian barley and spring water from Bumthang to produce its straw-gold signature brew. On days when they're not busy hand-bottling, the brewmaster, Mr. Pem Dorji, gives enthusiastic guided tours of the microbrewery that finish with a tasting in the pine-paneled Panda Beer House next door. Also, stop by their relatives shop one block down the hill for beers on tap coupled with fresh Bumthang cheese!
