Punakha iconaccommodation

Amankora Punakha is a remote and exclusive resort sited along the upper arm of the Mo Chhu (Mother River) north of Punakha Dzong, the iconic fortress where Bhutanese power was concentrated for over 300 years following its construction in 1638. Visitors leave cars behind to walk across a suspension bridge over the Mo Chhu and are chauffeured on golf carts through farmland to reach the property. Forget traffic, overhead electrical lines, and the rush of city life — all you can see from this resort are orange orchards, rice terraces, and the mountains that enclose guests in solitude. With just 8 Suites, it's the smallest of the five Amankoras spread throughout Bhutan's central and western valleys, and so serene and tranquil that some fans of Amankora rate it as their favorite. The resort centers around a traditional three-story Bhutanese farmhouse built by a former chief abbot of Bhutan. The old farmhouse now has the Dining Room on its ground floor and common gathering areas (as well as an altar room for meditation) on the upper floors. The Dining Room has two set menus for every meal at large, communal tables, the lounge provides a wide choice of drinks, and all meals and house drinks are included in the daily rate, along with laundry service. Meals and tea can be taken alfresco ...

Amankora Paro is an exclusive 5-star resort in a pine forest next to the majestic ruins of seventeenth century Drukyel Dzong. Though only 30 minutes from the airport in Paro (the only place where international flights can land in Bhutan), its forested grounds convey a sense of serenity and remoteness. World-renowned Tiger's Nest Temple (Taktsang Lhakhang) is close by, as is Kyichu Lhakhang, which dates to the seventh century and like Taktsang is a popular place of pilgrimage. Paro Dzong and the National Museum, with their rich display of heritage, are short drives away.
